Piccola Suonatrice di Flauto VS Suonatore di Flauto / Unicredit Collection 2011

While developing her ideas on Savoldo’s painting, Meneghini traveled back to her childhood and her first experiences with music by learning how to play the recorder. Since she was six years old, Meneghini has had a photograph that was taken by her cousin – a picture of a girl playing the flute – hanging in her bedroom. Building on these particular coincidences of individual history, experience and memory – and, in parallel, the collective imagination – Meneghini wonders about the identity of the young musician, about her thoughts and feelings, and how they might be described today. Second Floor / Eretria 2010

www.ramworkshop.wordpress.com

The aim of the RAM(Random Access Memory) workshop is to bring creative people of diverse disciplines and cultures together, encourage their artistic production on site, increase their familiarity with the Greek public and above all create a dynamic environment where ideas, methodologies and experiences can be shared paving the way for possible future collaborations. The results of the workshop were presented to the public on the 25th of July during an exhibition-event at studio Epsilon. A complete documentation of the workshop can be found in the related blog.

Quinto Grado / Trento 2010

The pyramids are both an instrument for displaying the territory’s typical products, and the products in their own right that create new economic prospects for local craftsmen. The projects were curated by Cittadellarte and designed for the region of Trento promoting the productive, morphological and cultural identity of the territory, bringing together art, crafts and industry. Katia Meneghini represents the Dolomiti Mountains in a functional and symbolic shape made with traditional ceramic techniques involving at the same time in the process the famous icon of Italian climbing Cesare Maestri. www.piramidiinmovimento.com

Spazio Libero / Bari 2009

spazio_libero

FREE SPACE is a project carried out in Bari during the Festival of  Low Resolution. The work exploits the mechanism of selling advertising space. Billboards with the word ‘free space’ and my telephone number are pasted on the sidewalk in the empty spaces where once were positioned bins. www.radicequadrata.org

MobLine / napoli 2009

mobline2

MobLine is a performance which was realised during the opening of Comincia Adesso!#4 at Ventre Space in Naples. The public was invited to wait outside the gallery space for almost an hour. People where required to wait for a long time typical of some commercial events; the time spent outside the exhibition space creates false expectations, unexpected relationships and reactions, some people leave their place, and at the end only few curious ones wait in a line.  www.cominciaadessoblog.blogspot.com

¿Qué Pasa?/ colombia 2008

picture-1192

I have been invited to realize a work for the project AIM, spazio di memoria, Moravia which aims to achieve responsible social transformation for the city of Medellin through the use of artistic practices. “¿Qué Pasa?” is a permanent public art installation which invites the community to reflect on the rapid changes of the city, while paying special attention to the issue of energy misuse.

The work consists of numerous LED lights (1W each) which are powered with the help of solar panels. A sensor enables the work to switch on after dark and the solar energy, which is stored into batteries during the day, assures a continuous function throughout the night (taking into account that the levels of sun coverage are very high all through the year in the region).

The project was curated by collettivo el puente_lab and supported by the Centro de Desarrollo Cultural de Moravia in collaboration with Cittadelarte-Fondazione Pistoletto and Festival della Creativita of Firenze 2008.

projeto marcozero/ brasil 2007

(with Vera Uberti & Valentina Vetturi)

www.projetomarcozero.wordpress.com

Marcozero is an art project that investigates the urban space of Praça da Sé, a square in São Paolo, Brazil.
The first period of the project took space during October, November and December 2007 inside the art residency program of Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado – FAAP. It had the form of an artistic laboratory researching and interacting with the public sphere of Sé square. The project has stemmed from the collaboration of Italian and Brasilian artists which are interested in the socio-political and environmental issues related to urban spaces. Marcozero‘s proposal is to experiment with diverse ways of analysis and dialogue in order to cast light upon the complexities of the community in question.

leggimi+vicino/torino2006

leggimivicino2-copy

A project done in the context of Festa dei Vicini di Casa and Letterature di Svolta (www.letteraturedisvolta.it).
In September, seven Unidee residents proposed to provide In primo luogo with chairs while involving local residents in the project, asking them their personale chairs for the Love Difference Table in the place. Thereby converting the location from a reserved gallery space to a friendly place where the community could sit and comfortably engage with the preexisting Letterature di Svolta project in the space.
In addition to being a quick and simple way to supply the space with the necessary pieces of furniture, this project was a way of involving the neighbors, the people from the surrounding area, with the space and generating interest toward Letterature di Svolta.

leggimi-vicino
The artists asked people who work and live near In primo luogo to lend their chairs from the day of Torino’s Festa dei Vicini. In exchange, the artist modified the chairs by reupholstering and rewaving seats as well as stenciling in and penning out quotations onto different parts of each chair. The aim of their work with the residents’ chairs was minimal intervention rather than the creation of works of art, and the result was twenty unique, which will be returned to their corresponding owners in May 2007.

memory track/ padova 2005

memory

memory-track2

Sound installation. A site specific work that was created for the ‘Nuovi Segnali” event in the Liviano building, in Padova. The work aims to remind to the spectators the story of three people, the statues of which have become through time simple decorative objects within a space deprived of its’ original meaning. After a series of interviews on site regarding the three statues the passersby of the space confirmed their ignorance on Carlo Diano, Luigi Pierobon and Emilio Bordero. These testimonies where recorded and edited alongside a brief text regarding the lives of these three people; the result was three separate tracks for each of the statues.

The object of this research was the recovery of the personal and collective memory that is evocated by these three austere objects which are profoundly connected with the space that they are found in. Making thus a link between present and past while trying to regroup memories in order to put them in relation with the spectator who’s invited to interact and become personally involved in an act of participation and exchange.

quote tags/ denmark 2005

quote-tags

The projects consists in adding a tag in the various items in sale within the store. The tags are simple and contain a printed phrase, which belongs to famous people (philosophers, sociologists, etc.), on the subject of consumerism. For every item in the store a different tag has been placed that accompanies the original price-tag. As a result every buyer should find a short message on consumerism that will hopefully make him ponder for a short while at the end of the day.

tourist in venice/ venice 2005

ARE YOU A TOURIST?

1.PHOTOGRAPH VENICE

2.SEND ME A PHOTO OF THE CITY

Send it at: touristinvenice@yahoo.com

This open call was made through leaflets and posters in the city of Venice and various forums in the internet. The photos that I received from the tourists where then sent (via email) to Venetian citizens asking them a short comment. Subsequently these comments where forwarded to the tourists that had realised the photographs. In the end I have selected some of these photos and printed them in the format of postcards. These are now being sold in some of the most touristic places around Venice. The project is opening thus itself through the tourists and other people who will buy them and send them around the world. Furthermore the comments that I have received and will receive in the future are being archived and will be presented in the future, along with the rest of the material in the form of a catalogue.

The aim of the work is to create new contacts (direct-indirect) between people that would never normally meet since the identity of a tourist does not usually permit a true personal interaction with the people of the visited space. The result of the project will be revealed through time.
